So it's done. We have told all of the people I think we really need to tell in person. (For those of you who weren't told by us personally, please let me offer this apology and know that we love you) Now I need to figure out how I'm going to tell everyone else!
It was a bittersweet experience telling people. Some people were very excited and that was wonderful for us. Others were a bit confused, which is understandable. We talked about this with very few people, and even at those times it wasn't always a serious talk, more just passing conversations regarding adoption. So, I can understand why some people may be a bit surprised they didn't know more about desire to do this.
I've heard a list of all types of things now that we've told people, the most common one being: "I just think it's just wrong that it's so expensive!"
So let me give my response to that. Yes, I wish it was cheaper. But here's how I see it: If this process wasn't regulated by the Federal Govornment and the courts in Ethiopia, it would become a business of selling children illegally, and you can imagine what kind of torture that would create for those children. So because it is regulated, court fees have to come into play. I get it and accept it. Also, the orphanages that will take care of our son need to continue to be able to provide food and clothing and a safe place for the children to sleep. So I am fine with giving them money so they can continue to give another baby the love and care they will give to my son. It all boils down to the fact that someone will give them funds so that my son has somewhere to go, so why shouldn't I do it for the ones that follow me?
So in the spirit of telling people such HUGE news, I thought I would award a prize for the best reaction from those that we told over the weekend.

I told my sister over the phone, which is kindof a bummer, but even still she was thrilled and you could tell she was so excited about what we are doing. Not that the rest of you weren't awesome, but I have to give her a shout out because she was the best. Or, maybe it's just because my niece is so sticken cute that I just wanted an excuse to put her little mug on my blog. ;) Hehehehe.
