The things people think.

So, it's been a little while now since we've been in this adoption process. What that means is lots of meetings and paperwork has been done. It also means that word is beginning to spread about what we're doing, and people are discussing it when we aren't around, which is to be expected. What I didn't expect was what some people think is the motivation behind it. So, let me make this perfectly clear:

We are not adopting because I don't want to be pregnant.
Yes, people have actually said this about us. Now, I will say that there are many benefits to adopting, and not having to deal with all that comes with a pregnancy, but that has NOTHING to do with the decision itself. I will admit I have said things regarding my lack of excitement for a pregnancy, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's a beautiful, wonderful experience. Also, I'm not trying to sound "all conquering" by saying this, but I have done a lot of things in my life and I'm very confident that I can handle a pregnancy. I don't understand why people are so hung up on the fact that we have decided to make adoption "Plan A"

Just so everyone is clear, here's how it happened: Mark and I didn't feel this intense NEED to have biological children like many couples have a desire to. However, we want to have a family and there are millions of children who come into this world needing homes, especially in Africa. So why not? We have love to share and the ability to do it, it's just that simple. We aren't saying we will never have biological children either, this is just where we are being lead right now.

I hope everyone knows that I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just surprised with what I've heard and wanted to make sure to clear the air about it. We are very thankful for the support that we have received by so many.

Switching gears, things went great this week. Our homestudy visits are done and we learned SO MUCH at the transcultural awareness meeting. Now we are just doing a bunch of reading and this week we have physicals and blood work. If all goes well our homestudy should be completed in about 2 weeks! After that our dossier should be well on it's way to completion... whooohoooo!
